Dr. Soniah Bigie Moloi | Cardiologist

Dr. Moloi is a dedicated and high performing Director and Consultant Cardiologist with a particular interest in Echocardiogram (Transthoracic and Oesophageal) and Exercise Stress Echocardiogram and Dobutamine Stress Echocardiogram.

Dr. Moloi is also a Senior Lecturer with James Cook University and lead in ECHOLAB at Townsville University Hospital. He is currently Acting Director of Cardiology at Townsville University Hospital and is Head of Cardiology Registrar Training. Dr. Moloi is an examiner with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.

He received his undergraduate Medical Degree from University of Newcastle Australia, in 2004 and proceeded to work as a junior medical officer in various hospitals including Gosford, Wollongong and St Vincent Hospital in NSW. He is a Fellow of the Australasian college of Physicians (FRACP), Fellow of Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand, board certified in adult echocardiography in the USA and holds a level A certificate in CT coronary angiography.

Dr. Moloi specialises in multimodality imaging with expertise in complex echocardiography including transthoracic echo (Including 3D ECHO and strain), exercise stress ECHO, dobutamine stress echo, transoesophageal echo (including peri-operative TOE, in valve surgery, TAVI and Shunt closure).

Dr. Moloi manages a wide range of cardiac diseases including valvular heart disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathies, simple and complex coronary artery disease, difficult to treat hypertension and all forms of arrhythmias. His research interest includes valvular disease, cardiomyopathies and cardio-oncology.

Dr. Gupta has special interests in the prevention, diagnosis and management of coronary artery disease and acute coronary syndromes. As an interventional cardiologist, he can perform coronary angiography and complex interventional procedures as well as invasive cardiac assessments including right heart catheterisations and coronary physiology assessments. As a general cardiologist he is well versed in the management of all cardiac patients with an excellent understanding of the complexities and intricacies of practice in Townsville.

Dr. Gupta is an associate lecturer at the University of Queensland and James Cook University, he has research interests in interventional cardiology, preventative medicine and in heart failure, and is actively involved in research domestically and internationally. He is also actively involved in the training and mentorship of the next generation of doctors – educating students and junior doctors on a regular basis.

Dr. Gupta is a locally trained cardiologist, undertaking his Advanced Training in Cardiology in Townsville and first year of Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at Townsville University Hospital. This was followed by a second year of complex coronary intervention at Melbourne’s St. Vincent’s Private Hospital.

Dr. Rosh Samuel | Paediatric and Fetal Cardiologist

Dr. Rosh Samuel is a paediatric and fetal cardiologist who finds great privilege in working with children and their families who have been referred with suspected heart disease. After studying medicine at James Cook University in North Queensland, he completed paediatric cardiology training across many renowned centres of excellence including British Columbia Children’s Hospital, Royal Children’s Hospital and Queensland Children’s Hospital. Dr. Samuel has undertaken an additional fellowship in fetal and neonatal cardiology, under the esteemed tutelage of world leading fetal cardiologists at the University of Alberta.

Being a specialist paediatrician as well, Dr. Samuel is able to assess the cardiovascular system in the context of a child’s general health. He has held appointments as a senior medical officer and as a paediatric and fetal cardiologist at the Queensland Children’s Hospital, Perth Children’s Hospital and Townsville University Hospital. Dr. Samuel has published work on the perioperative care of children undergoing cardiac surgery. His research interests also include high risk fetal heart disease as well as fetal cardiac counselling. He enjoys teaching medical students at James Cook University and junior doctors throughout Queensland. Dr. Samuel prides himself on excellent communication skills and a compassionate approach to family centred care.

Dr. Eng is a general and interventional cardiologist with special interest in structural intervention. He is experienced in treating a wide range of cardiac conditions including coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathies, preventive cardiology for patients with cardiovascular risk factors and many others.

Dr. Eng received his advanced cardiology training in Queensland, Townsville University Hospital and Princess Alexandra Hospital after completion of physician training in United Kingdom. He undertook his first interventional fellowship at the Townsville University Hospital and went on to complete a two-year interventional and structural fellowship at the prestigious institutions, Vancouver General and St Paul Hospitals, Canada under the supervision of world experts in interventional cardiology.

Dr. Eng is the cardiology lead in Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) program in Townsville University Hospital, offering surgery-sparing treatment for patients with aortic stenosis. He performs coronary angiography, simple and complex coronary angioplasty and stenting, coronary imaging and physiology assessment, right heart catheterisation and catheter-based structural interventions such as patent foramen ovale and septal defect device closure.

Dr. Eng is a locally and internationally trained cardiologist who is dedicated to improve the cardiac care in the community. He plays active roles in shaping the development of junior doctors.

Dr. Jahangiri is an interventional and general cardiologist. He is involved in all aspects of general cardiology but has a special interest in intracoronary imaging and coronary physiology.

Cardiology is Bijan’s third medical career, having worked in medical devices research and then as a GP before starting his physician and cardiology training. He has trained and worked in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. As a part of his research role in the Canadian Artificial Heart Program through Ottawa Heart Institute, he was also directly involved in experiments in such American centres as the Cleveland Clinic, University of Stanford, University of Pittsburgh, and University of Louisville.

Bijan is a keen educator and has given lectures in multiple clinical and/or university settings in different countries. He enjoys travelling but has “been told” that his days of traveling around the world for work are all but over!

Donna has been with Townsville Cardiovascular Group since its inception in May 2022 and is responsible for the overall running of the business and watching it grow becoming what it is today. Donna is a Townsville local and has an extensive background in Cardiology having worked for a previous practice for 15 years starting out in the typing pool then progressing through the ranks to Practice Manager. If there is a problem Donna will most likely have the answer and if she doesn’t, she will make it her business to find out.
